A 40 million won gap in childcare support.

Systems supporting childbirth and childcare are being overhauled.

However, controversy over fairness is arising because a difference of just a single day in a child's birth date can result in a disparity of nearly 40 million won in support funds they are eligible to receive.

The government plans to introduce a new childbirth support fund starting with babies born in July of next year, which integrates existing programs such as the First Meeting Voucher and parental allowances.

It also plans to reform child allowances to expand both the support amount and the eligible recipients.

The problem is that a significant difference in support funds will occur depending on when a child is born in relation to when the new system takes effect.

According to an analysis by the National Assembly Budget Office, the total support received up to age 12 could differ by up to 39.6 million won depending on birth order, region of residence, and childcare methods.

To reduce this gap, the government is reviewing measures such as retroactively applying the new system to babies born starting in January of next year.
