19-year-old Ban Hyo-jin, a leading figure in South Korean women's shooting, pulled off a spectacular comeback show to achieve her second consecutive victory at the World Championships.

After finishing first in the women's 10m air rifle preliminary round, Ban trailed China's Han Jiayu by 1.1 points after the first 10 shots in the final.

However, she demonstrated exceptional focus during the elimination stage, where the lowest-ranked shooter is eliminated every two shots.

Narrowing the gap shot by shot, she tied the score on her 18th shot and took the lead by 0.1 points on her 20th shot.

On her very next shot, she pierced the absolute center of the target with a 10.9.

[Commentator: That's a 10.9! As expected from the reigning world and Olympic champion, wow!]

Ban widened the gap even further in her final two shots to secure her second straight World Championships title, while also locking up a quota place for the Los Angeles Olympics.

[Ban Hyo-jin / National Shooting Team Member: Since this was the first international competition offering Olympic quotas, I thought, "Let's win one right from the first competition," so I really wanted to win (the medal).]

Ban also warmed hearts by placing her gold medal around the neck of her junior teammate, Choi Ye-in, whose participation had been canceled due to a mistake by the shooting federation.
