Ahead of the SBS D Forum, SBS and Seoul National University's Institute for Future Strategy conducted the first-ever survey on public perceptions in the era of artificial intelligence. The results are notable. A significant number of respondents stated that they trust AI's judgment not only more than their own, but even more than government institutions.

Reporter Jeongyeon has the details.

The public expects AI to bring convenience to daily life, enhance productivity, and advance medical technologies, but concerns regarding side effects such as the spread of misinformation and deepfakes were also high.

Artificial intelligence has already deeply penetrated our lives.

One in three respondents said they trust the opinions of AI more than their own judgment.

Regarding AI replacing human tasks, responses saying it is "acceptable" outweighed those saying it is not across all fields.

A notable point is the trust placed in AI.

More respondents stated they trust AI's judgment on social and policy issues more than the National Assembly, courts, or the government.

[Lim Dong-gyun / Professor of Sociology, Seoul National University: Especially in the case of AI, people seem to think that it can at least make policy judgments relatively 'more fairly' compared to the National Assembly. Therefore, this provides an implication that the National Assembly now needs to ponder on how it can implement fairer politics.]

Ethical concerns surrounding AI, such as large-scale hacking in domestic and international financial sectors and cheating on exams, are becoming a reality.

The public believes that no matter how much AI develops, "making judgments according to ethical standards," "making final decisions, and taking responsibility for the outcomes" should remain uniquely important roles for humans.

As society rapidly enters a super-intelligence era, what should we change and what must we protect?

Speakers from academia and industry both home and abroad will seek solutions at the SBS D Forum, titled "The Era of Surrogate Intelligence: Questioning Sovereign Thought," which opens tomorrow (November 5) at the DDP in Seoul.
