Former President Yoon Suk Yeol, who was indicted on charges of making false statements during his presidential campaign, has received a 1-year and 6-month prison sentence with a 3-year probation in his appellate trial, a penalty that would invalidate his election if finalized. If this sentence is finalized, the People Power Party will be required to return 39.7 billion won in election expenses reimbursed during the presidential race. The 2nd Criminal Division of the Seoul High Court (Presiding Judges Baek Seung-yeop, Hwang Seung-tae, and Kim Young-hyun) ruled as false the statement made by former President Yoon during an invitation debate hosted by the Kwanhun Club on December 14, 2021, to the effect that he "had never introduced attorney Lee to former Yongsan Tax Office Chief Yoon Woo-jin." The court pointed out, "Whether the defendant introduced a lawyer to Yoon Woo-jin was important information in evaluating morality and fairness as a public official, and yet he disseminated false information, making the culpability heavy." We will deliver the details through the video.
