Han Byung-do, floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea (MINJU), said today (November 4) regarding the "Distorted Indictment Special Counsel" bill adopted as the party platform, "The People Power Party is still stubbornly claiming it is a 'dropped charges' special counsel and distorting the entire bill."
Floor Leader Han stated during a Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly today, "In this special counsel bill, we have deleted not only the provisions related to dropping charges from the previous bill, but also all provisions that could produce such an effect."
Referring to the People Power Party's stated plan to launch a filibuster (lawful obstruction of legislative proceedings through unlimited debate) against all bills introduced to the National Assembly plenary session on November 5 if the special counsel bill is introduced, he questioned, "Isn't attempting to block all other bills holding people's livelihoods hostage to political strife?"
He continued in criticism, "Announcing a filibuster even before reviewing bills is a declaration of abandoning lawmakers' duty to weigh the contents and necessity of each bill before voting, and an irresponsible act that passes the resulting damage entirely onto the people."
He then emphasized, "I urge the People Power Party to withdraw its all-out legislative obstruction and boycott of public livelihoods, and responsibly participate in reviewing and debating each bill," adding, "The MINJU Party will swiftly process livelihood and contentious bills by the end of this year."
