The global football community is in shock after CD Tenerife forward Jesus de Miguel died following a collision with the FC Andorra goalkeeper during a Spanish Segunda Division match.

According to Reuters and the BBC, CD Tenerife announced in a statement that Jesus de Miguel passed away at the age of 30 at 8:00 a.m. local time on November 3.

De Miguel collided with Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono, who had rushed out to clear the ball, during the match at the Estadio Heliodoro Rodriguez Lopez on November 2, with the score tied 2-2 in the seventh minute of stoppage time in the second half.

After the collision, de Miguel lay motionless before receiving treatment from the medical team and being rushed to the hospital by ambulance.

Spanish media reported that de Miguel suffered severe injuries to his chest and head, went into cardiac arrest inside the ambulance, and received cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

He was subsequently moved to the hospital's intensive care unit, but his condition worsened, and he ultimately passed away.

Owono received a red card immediately after the collision, and the match was suspended.

Following the incident, critical comments from football fans flooded the social media account of Owono, who is from Equatorial Guinea, blaming him for aggressively blocking de Miguel and causing his death. His account was deactivated that morning.

According to Reuters, Spanish police have launched an investigation into potential manslaughter.

Tenerife expressed their grief in a statement, saying, "Our hearts are broken with pain" and "No words can offer comfort. We send our condolences to his family, friends, and all Tenerife fans."

The Royal Spanish Football Federation released a statement of condolence saying, "We are devastated and express our deepest sorrow," and postponed all scheduled matches, including the Copa del Rey, for that day.

UEFA announced that a moment of silence will be held before all European matches this week.
