Another young manager in his 30s has emerged in Major League Baseball (MLB).
The Seattle Mariners announced on November 4 that they have appointed 36-year-old Jason Kanzler, who has no prior managerial experience, as their next manager.
With this appointment, Kanzler becomes the second-youngest active manager in the majors, following Washington Nationals manager Blake Butera, who is 34.
Having finished his brief playing career in the minor leagues, Kanzler transitioned into coaching early on and served as the assistant hitting coach for the Houston Astros from 2022 to 2023.
From 2024 through this year, he worked as the director of player development for the Chicago Cubs.
Kanzler, who applied for the Seattle managerial vacancy following this season, was selected as the next manager after competing against former Houston manager Joe Espada.
Seattle General Manager Justin Hollander stated, "Kanzler demonstrated exceptional leadership and vision during the interview, as well as the ability to communicate with players, coaches, and the front office."
The Seattle Mariners won the American League (AL) West division title and reached the postseason with a 90-72 record in 2025, but after slumping to a 76-86 record this season, they dismissed manager Dan Wilson.
