AI cloud data company Snowflake has announced its transition from traditional, simple question-and-answer AI tools to autonomous AI agents capable of performing tasks 24/7.

During its annual developer conference, Snowflake Expedition 2026, held virtually today (Nov. 3, local time), Snowflake announced that it has upgraded its existing AI product lineups, Cowork and Koko, into autonomous agents.

While previously functioning as tools that responded when users asked questions or gave commands through chat windows, they are now able to autonomously plan and execute assigned tasks without requiring specific, step-by-step user instructions.

Users simply need to provide final approval when requested by the two bots.

Christian Kleinerman, Senior Vice President of Product, emphasized regarding the company's AI agents, "The difference between agents based on guesswork and those operating on accurate information ultimately comes down to data. Snowflake implements agents that are equipped with data, business context, and control, allowing them to continuously learn and evolve."

However, as the scope of autonomous execution by AI agents expands, enterprises are also facing new challenges, such as incorrect answers caused by hallucinations, security threats, and soaring costs.

Addressing this, Vice President Kleinerman pointed out, "Most AI solutions occasionally lead to hallucinations and erroneous results," adding that establishing a company-wide control system is essential for autonomous agents to operate with precision and reliability.

To solve these issues, Snowflake introduced "Business Ontology" and "Cortex AI Gateway."

The company explained that Business Ontology provides consistent and accurate definitions of terms and tasks along with business context, while Cortex AI Gateway applies consistent security policies to resolve hallucinations and security issues.

Additionally, to democratize AI technology and expand its ecosystem, Snowflake launched "Snowflake Practitioners," a two-day free hands-on training program aimed at all customers and partners worldwide.

Along with this, Snowflake expanded support for its AI Data Cloud on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), enabling enterprises to easily analyze their existing Oracle data assets and utilize them for AI.
