Russia confirmed today (local time) that it will participate in US-mediated trilateral talks to end the war in Ukraine.
According to TASS news agency, Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov was asked during a briefing about an announcement made yesterday by US President Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and stated, "The Russian delegation plans to attend the trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi on the 10th and 11th."
Yesterday, Special Envoy Witkoff announced the schedule via X (formerly Twitter), explaining, "The negotiations will focus on the post-war security architecture, de-escalation, humanitarian assistance efforts, and future steps toward peace."
Peskov stated that Vladimir Medinsky, who has served as Russia's chief negotiator for ending the war, will lead the delegation once again.
He also added that the delegation typically receives instructions from Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Previously, President Putin met with Special Envoy Witkoff in St. Petersburg on October 21 and agreed to resume the trilateral peace negotiations involving Russia, the US, and Ukraine.
The last US-mediated trilateral meeting was held in February, before the US and Israel launched a war against Iran.
If the upcoming talks take place, trilateral discussions to end the war will resume after about nine months.
Meanwhile, addressing recent allegations of abuse against deserters at a military facility near the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv, Peskov added, "Those who do not want to fight for the Kyiv regime can surrender to our military."
