Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Choi Hwi-young met with Jeonbuk State Governor Lee Won-taek at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul, this afternoon (the 3rd) to discuss pending issues related to the bid for the 2036 Summer Olympics.

Jeonbuk State previously agreed to discuss a co-hosting arrangement with Seoul in order to boost its competitiveness in bidding for the 2036 Summer Olympics.

Emphasizing that Seoul has also expressed its willingness to actively cooperate in discussions on co-hosting, Minister Choi stressed that a prompt agreement between the two local governments is necessary, taking into consideration the host city selection schedule announced by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

In addition, Minister Choi stated that once an agreement on co-hosting is finalized between Jeonbuk State and Seoul, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee will provide support to ensure that the necessary procedures proceed swiftly.
