The Genesis production line at Hyundai Motor, which had been halted due to labor-management friction surrounding the introduction of a new vehicle model, has resumed normal operations.
According to Hyundai Motor's labor and management, Line 1 of the No. 5 plant in Ulsan, which produces Genesis vehicles, restarted operations at around 5:00 PM today (Nov. 3).
Production has resumed after being halted for more than 24 hours since the morning of yesterday.
The latest shutdown occurred during consultations between labor and management over the so-called "man-hours" ahead of the mass production of the Genesis G80 hybrid and G90 facelift models.
Man-hours refer to the workforce and labor input required to produce a single vehicle.
Because the introduction of a new vehicle can alter processes or workloads, the required workforce size may be adjusted, making it a subject for negotiation between labor and management.
The company had been pushing for a man-hour agreement for the mass production of the new vehicle, but negotiations stalled as the union opposed it.
Amid this situation, when the company attempted to introduce test vehicles onto the production line, some union delegates blocked them, causing the production line to halt.
The resumption of production today is known to be the result of the company deciding not to introduce test vehicles onto the production line, while the union agreed to engage in man-hour negotiations.
