A man in his 30s who harbored a grudge against someone he got into a fight with at an overseas club and commissioned so-called "proxy retaliation" has been arrested by police.

The Daejeon Provincial Police Agency announced that it has arrested and forwarded A, 37, to the prosecutors' office on charges of instigating property damage and attempted extortion.

A, who mainly resides in Vietnam, got into a physical altercation with B after an argument at a local club in late April.

According to the investigation, A, who took the heavier blows during the fight, demanded 30 million won in settlement money from B and threatened him. When the demand was rejected, A commissioned the crime to a Telegram proxy retaliation service provider.

Three teenagers acting on instructions from the proxy provider carried out retaliatory acts on three occasions in May, including spraying red lacquer on the front door and walls of B's apartment located in Dong-gu, Daejeon.

All three teenagers who participated in the crime were caught, and investigations showed that the 15-year-old and others who were caught red-handed at the scene did not even receive the promised money.

A, who rarely entered South Korea, was apprehended while entering the country through Incheon Airport by police who had identified his identity and placed a pre-entry notification measure on him.

Police are pursuing the Telegram proxy retaliation provider who ordered the crime while investigating how A obtained personal information such as the victim's address.
