President Lee Jae-myung addressed the issue of societal polarization in South Korea, identifying "fake news" as a primary background and cause.

Presiding over a Cabinet meeting at the Blue House today (November 3), President Lee stated, "Society is becoming too polarized, and the middle ground is gradually disappearing."

He added, "Unlike in the past, information delivery systems have become direct and fast, turning agitation driven by fake news into a very effective tool," calling for urgent measures.

President Lee continued, "It has become all too routine to fabricate and systematically spread falsehoods as a means of gaining unfair economic profits, profiting from clickbait, or spreading false information for political motives to cause social turmoil."

"Because the social damage goes far beyond the dimension of personal issues, a strong response is necessary," President Lee emphasized.

In addition, President Lee addressed law enforcement and investigative agencies during the Cabinet meeting.

"Right now, the public is very worried about the so-called separation of investigative powers and changes to the judicial system. To dispel these concerns, the role of law enforcement and inspection must be strict," he said, noting, "There are great concerns over whether crimes abusing power or status, as well as financial crimes, are properly investigated and punished."

He also urged, "To build trust that South Korean society is fair, transparent, and rational, the inspection and enforcement role must be rigorous," adding, "While there may be difficulties during organizational restructuring, I hope you demonstrate that the judicial system is functioning properly so that the public does not worry about judicial reform."
