Following President Lee Jae-myung, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Choi Hwi-young has stepped up to find a solution in response to a letter from elementary school students complaining about the lack of cultural facilities in their area.
Taking to his social media today (Nov. 2), Minister Choi wrote, "Mr. President, I will create alternatives so that children who lack cultural facilities around them can also enjoy cultural life." He added, addressing the students who wrote the letter, "Please hold on and wait just a little longer."
Earlier this afternoon, President Lee mentioned the names of five students from Gibuk Elementary School in Pohang who sent him the letter via social media, stating, "I received your letter saying there are no movie theaters, performance halls, or art museums in your neighborhood. I will definitely find ways to ensure that friends who have difficulty enjoying cultural life due to distance can easily do so."
The students' letter shared by President Lee on social media included sentiments such as, "To watch a movie, we have to travel 40 minutes by car or an hour by bus. We envy urban children on TV who get to watch musicals and experience museums."
