▲ Suspect in the Murder of a Woman Following a Stalking Report in Daejeon
The personal information of a man in his 40s who was arrested on charges of tracking down and murdering his former romantic partner—who had previously reported him for stalking—will be disclosed.
The Daejeon Provincial Police Agency announced today (Nov. 2) that it held a deliberation committee on the disclosure of personal information and decided to reveal the identity of the suspect, identified by the surname A.
However, because suspect A has raised an objection to the decision, a grace period of at least 5 days will be observed in accordance with relevant laws, meaning the actual disclosure is expected to take place after November 9.
Police initially decided not to hold the deliberation committee out of respect for the bereaved family's wishes and concerns over secondary victimization, but convened the committee after the family recently changed their position to express a desire for the identity to be disclosed.
Suspect A is accused of assaulting and strangling his former partner, a woman in her 40s identified as B, to death at a residence in Jung-gu, Daejeon, on October 24.
Police plan to forward the case to the prosecutors' office tomorrow (Nov. 3), when the detention period for suspect A expires.
