Kim Sung-sik, Vice Chairman of the presidential National Economic Advisory Council, emphasized that "the three mega projects are the biggest challenge to reshaping the framework of our economy and industry since the drive to foster heavy and chemical industries in the 1970s," stressing the critical importance of swift execution and collaboration.

Vice Chairman Kim made the remarks on Monday afternoon at a forum titled "Three Mega Projects: Tasks to Become a National Growth Platform," hosted by the National Economic Advisory Council.

Vice Chairman Kim suggested, "We must execute a strategy to enhance the capabilities of the overall ecosystem beyond discussions on expanding fabs (semiconductor manufacturing plants)," adding, "While maintaining our super-gap in memory semiconductors, we must foster competitiveness in system semiconductors, which represent a larger market."

Regarding physical AI, he stressed, "Foreign tech companies are already actively seeking data from our manufacturing sites," emphasizing, "We must institutionalize a compensation system for on-site data rights, establish a platform optimized for AX (AI transformation) utilization and security, and open pathways for manufacturing site know-how to be passed on to the younger generation."

He continued, "We have no time to waste," emphasizing that "it is urgent to refine strategies and establish action plans to overcome bottlenecks in systems, infrastructure, talent, and technological innovation, as well as to build a system of collaboration and swift execution."

Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Kim Jung-kwan delivered the keynote address at the forum.

Panelists will review the direction of the three mega projects and discuss key tasks in each field, including semiconductors and physical AI.

The National Economic Advisory Council is an advisory body directly under the president established pursuant to the Constitution to advise the president on major policies affecting the national economy.
