Yoo Ye-rin (ranked 183rd, POSCO International) has captured her first-ever singles title at a World Table Tennis (WTT) senior event.
On November 2 (KST), Yoo defeated Sutirtha Mukherjee of India (ranked 130th) 3-0 (11-6, 11-7, 11-9) in the women's singles final of the WTT Feeder Chennai 2026 in Chennai, India.
Having finished as the runner-up in all three of her previous WTT Feeder tournament final appearances, 18-year-old Yoo finally tasted victory on her fourth attempt.
Although ranked outside the top 100, Mukherjee is a seasoned veteran who defeated top-seeded Yang Ha-eun (ranked 64th, Hwaseong City Corporation) 3-0 in the semifinals and won a bronze medal in the women's doubles at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games.
Yoo secured a dominant victory over Mukherjee without dropping a single game.
Having joined her corporate team last April, Yoo claimed her first singles title at the Autumn Jikji Federation Corporate Tournament in July and contributed to her team's victory in the team event at the President's Cup National Tournament.
Yoo, the daughter of table tennis legend and Korea Exchange coach Yoo Nam-kyu, shared her thoughts on the win, saying, "Because my dad is so famous, I felt pressured to do well, so I worked myself to the bone, but I finished as the runner-up three times just last year. I'm so happy to finally break the runner-up curse. In 2028, I want to follow in my father's footsteps, go to the Olympics, defeat China, and win a gold medal."
Yoo is scheduled to compete in another WTT Feeder tournament starting on November 4 in Portugal.
