It has been belatedly confirmed that a public official in Bupyeong-gu, Incheon, who repeatedly closed taxi-related complaints with fabricated information, has faced severe disciplinary action following an internal audit.

According to Bupyeong-gu and other sources, the Incheon City Personnel Commission resolved to dismiss official A, a Grade 7 employee belonging to Bupyeong-gu, in June.

Official A, who was in charge of handling taxi complaints, handled complaints regarding issues such as refusal to board and overcharging from the second half of 2024 through last year by fabricating records to make it appear as though fines had been imposed when they actually had not, thereby closing the complaints under false pretenses.

It was confirmed that the official gave false responses to a complainant who requested information disclosure, claiming that fines had been imposed.

After identifying the issue internally, Bupyeong-gu launched an audit, confirmed official A's misconduct, and subsequently filed a complaint with the police against official A on charges of forging official documents and uttering forged official documents.

During the investigation, police determined that official A had manipulated computer records and thus changed the charges to the fabrication of official electronic records and the uttering of fabricated official electronic records, forwarding the case to the prosecutors' office without detention.

An official from Bupyeong-gu explained that fines can be imposed up to five years from the date the violation ended, and that the unimposed fines were belatedly levied. However, they stated that the specific amount and the number of falsely closed complaints could not be disclosed as the matter is currently under investigation.

After receiving notification of the dismissal resolution, official A reportedly did not request a review of the disciplinary action within 30 days, thereby finalizing the dismissal.
