Figure skater Shin Ji-a (Sewha Girls' High School) put up a strong performance in the free skate, but finished her first senior Grand Prix event of the season in sixth place.
Shin scored 74.13 points in technical elements (TES) and 65.01 points in component score (PCS) for a total of 139.14 points in the women's singles free skate at the 2026-2027 International Skating Union (ISU) Figure Skating Grand Prix 2nd stop held in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada, today.
Combined with her short program score of 65.38 points from the previous day, she finished with a total score of 204.52 points, ranking sixth among 12 competitors.
Looking at the free skate alone, she placed third, but she was unable to make up the deficit caused by a jump error in the short program.
Mao Shimada (Japan, 235.44 points), Niina Petrokina (Estonia, 221.07 points), and Isabeau Levito (USA, 212.22 points) won the gold, silver, and bronze medals, respectively.
Shin cleanly executed her opening triple salchow, followed by a stable triple lutz-triple toe loop combination jump and a triple loop, earning grade of execution (GOE) bonuses of 1.43 points and 1.05 points, respectively.
After performing a change foot combination spin at the maximum difficulty level 4, Shin proceeded to a choreo sequence.
On her first element in the second half, which carries a 10% bonus, the triple flip-double axel-double axel sequence jump, she received a quarter landing call (when the jump rotation is short by about 90 degrees) on the final double axel, resulting in a 0.45-point deduction in GOE.
She then landed the triple lutz cleanly, but received an attention call (unclear edge) on her final jump element, the triple flip.
After executing both the flying camel spin and step sequence at level 4, she concluded her routine with a choreo spin.
Kim Yu-jae (Surigo High School), who competed alongside her, received 60.50 points in TES, 58.63 points in PCS, and a 1-point deduction for a free skate score of 118.13 points.
With her short program score of 63.50 points, she finished in seventh place with a total score of 181.63 points.
