▲ Independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon holds a press conference at the National Assembly's Rotunda Hall on October 30 regarding allegations that he covered up an investigation into his daughter's alleged fabricated credentials during his tenure as justice minister.
Regarding the so-called "Hoon-Hoon alliance" referring to solidarity with Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon said, "My position is that it is time to join forces with anyone who shares the cause of stopping the Lee Jae-myung administration from destroying the democratic republic, and protecting and advancing our democratic republic."
Meeting with reporters today (October 30) at the National Assembly's main building Rotunda Hall, Han answered, "The Lee Jae-myung Democratic Party administration is collapsing the democratic republic in an unprecedented manner, and I do not think this is the time for idle talk about who is close to whom and who is not."
He added, "An alliance for the people is forged through a cause, not personal friendships. The cause we need right now is to halt the runaway actions of the Lee Jae-myung Democratic Party administration and to defend and advance this country's democratic republic. We must unite with anyone who agrees with that cause, and I have consistently maintained that stance."
When asked whether he considers People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok or former Reform Party leader Lee Jun-seok as people to work with, Han replied, "I am not singling anyone out. If people share that cause and take action together, now is the time for everyone to protect the democratic republic of the Republic of Korea together."
Regarding the Democratic Party's push for an unprecedented parliamentary investigation into Supreme Court Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae, Han expressed concern, saying, "Chief Justice Cho did only one thing wrong: he did not try to protect the individual named Lee Jae-myung." He added, "Conducting a parliamentary probe and pushing for a special counsel like lynching a single chief justice of the Supreme Court is the collapse of a democratic republic. It is an extremely serious situation."
He continued with sharp criticism, saying, "To prevent a powerful figure from standing trial, the group to which that powerful figure belongs is destroying the judicial system for private purposes in an effort to stay in power. In the past, there were regimes that did such things in secret, but there has never been a regime that acts so brazenly in broad daylight."
He added, "Think about a country where Chief Justice Cho is brought down and forced to step down like this. Is that an advanced country? Isn't it a total mess?" He stated, "The people of the Republic of Korea will not live in such a country. If such a situation arises, I will step forward together with the people."
Regarding the Democratic Party raising allegations against his family and attacking him—such as Democratic Party lawmaker Park Ji-won urging an investigation into his daughter during a broadcast interview by saying, "Han Dong-hoon should also suffer like Cho Kuk"—Han pointed out, "Everything is in Lawmaker Park's remarks. They know they are framing an innocent person, but they do it to inflict pain in the process. The essence is that they intend to commit a form of torture. They are dredging up already settled matters for the third and fourth time to carry out political retaliation."
He continued, "There is only one reason the Democratic Party administration and the investigative agencies acting like its minions are bringing this up now. Because I am most effectively striking and checking the Lee Jae-myung administration that is tearing down the democratic republic, they are raising these issues to hold me back and manipulating investigative agencies as if giving orders. The public is watching. Do whatever you want."
