One night last June, a man in his 30s, surnamed A, approached a middle school girl sitting alone in front of a mart in Yangsan, Gyeongsangnam-do.
After lingering around the area, he parked a rental car near the student and asked, "Why are you alone? Is something wrong?"
Even after the girl replied that nothing was wrong, he tried to get her into the car, offering, "I'll give you a ride home. Do you want to buy some coffee?"
Sensing something was amiss, the student tried to walk away by saying her house was right in front, but A kept talking to her, saying, "I'm not a bad person. I'll watch you get home."
When the student walked away to leave, A drove his car around the neighborhood and watched her.
The student called her mother, and a report was also filed with the police.
It was revealed that A had previously been sentenced to prison twice for sex crimes against minors, and he approached another middle school girl just a month after his release.
The Ulsan District Court sentenced A, who was indicted on charges of attempted enticement of a minor, to six months in prison.
The court explained the sentencing reasons, noting that the victim and her family experienced considerable fear, that he had not been forgiven by the victim, and that he committed the offense during a repeated-offense probation period.
