The appellate sentencing trial for former President Yoon Suk Yeol, who was indicted on charges of publicizing false information during the 20th presidential election, will be broadcast live on the 4th of next month.
The 2-1 Criminal Division of the Seoul High Court announced today (the 30th) that it has granted permission for a live broadcast of the appellate sentencing hearing for former President Yoon, scheduled for 2:00 PM on the 4th of next month.
Former President Yoon is charged with publicizing false information by stating, in effect, that he had never introduced a lawyer from the Supreme Prosecutors' Office to former Yongsan Tax Office chief Yoon Woo-jin during a Kwanhun Club invitation debate in December 2021, while he was a candidate for the 20th presidential election.
He also faces the same charges for stating during an interview at the launch ceremony of the Buddhism Leaders Forum in January 2022 that he had "never met his wife, Kim Keonhee, and Jeon Seong-bae, known as 'Geonjin Beobsa' (Buddhist monk Geonjin), together."
Previously, the first-instance court recognized all of these charges as guilty and sentenced former President Yoon to one year and six months in prison, suspended for three years.
The special prosecutor for Kim Keonhee requested the court to hand down the same sentence as the first trial during the closing argument on the 13th.
