An oxygen cylinder exploded inside an ambulance parked at a medical facility in Pakistan, killing 10 people, including a pregnant woman.
According to Pakistani media outlets such as Geo News, the incident occurred on the night of the 28th local time when an oxygen cylinder suddenly exploded inside an ambulance parked at a medical facility in Pakistan's southern Sindh province, followed by a fire.
The accident left a total of 10 people dead, including a pregnant woman, while four others were injured and are receiving treatment at a hospital.
A police official explained that the victims included medical facility staff, patients, and their family members.
The official added that several patients were being transferred to another hospital at the time of the accident.
Videos shared on social media showed flames engulfing an ambulance with one of its doors open.
Geo News, citing local rescue officials, reported that the explosion and fire broke out while an oxygen cylinder was being replaced inside the ambulance.
Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari expressed his condolences to the victims and ordered an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
Pakistani police have deployed a specialized team to the scene to determine the exact cause of the explosion.
Major fires and explosion accidents frequently occur in Pakistan due to lax safety standards.
Previously in August of this year, a fire broke out at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), a public hospital in the capital city of Islamabad, killing 15 people including newborns.
