The two co-CEOs of Samsung Electronics, which has become the first global tech company to surpass 100 trillion won in quarterly operating profit, have emphasized that rather than celebrating their performance, it is time to coldly review their technological and quality competitiveness.

The directive calls for laying the foundation for sustainable growth by strengthening the fundamentals of finished products such as smartphones and home appliances, while simultaneously boosting technological competitiveness rather than resting on a semiconductor boom.

Jeon Young-hyun, Vice Chairman and Head of Samsung Electronics' Device Solutions (DS) division, stated in a commemorative message for the company's 57th anniversary released today (October 30), "No one can guarantee how long this market trend will last, and external challenges are growing fiercer."

Vice Chairman Jeon noted that while new growth opportunities are opening up in the semiconductor industry centered around artificial intelligence (AI), uncertainties in the global economy and industrial environment remain high, stressing the need to build a system capable of responding swiftly and flexibly under any circumstances.

The message underlined the need to establish a business structure that does not fluctuate excessively based on semiconductor cycles.

To achieve this, Vice Chairman Jeon put technology and quality at the forefront.

"Although our recent financial performance has improved, it is difficult to say that our technological competitiveness has fully recovered," Jeon said, adding, "We must not forget the basics of the semiconductor business: securing next-generation technological competitiveness, advancing manufacturing efficiency, securing flawless quality, and improving yields."

He also emphasized that the company must remain humble during a boom.

"We must never make unreasonable demands on customers or leverage our dominant position simply because of a boom," Jeon stated, adding, "A boom is temporary and the market can change at any time, but customer trust is the foundation of sustainable competitiveness that must be protected in any environment."

Roh Tae-moon, President and Head of the Device eXperience (DX) division, also underscored the importance of quality competitiveness.

"Above all, we must strengthen our market leadership by enhancing the fundamental competitiveness of our device business, including product perfection, quality, and operations," President Roh emphasized.

He stated, "We must reinforce our fundamentals such as product perfection, quality, and reliability to provide customers with the best AI experience and further solidify our market leadership," adding, "We must secure differentiated cost competitiveness by enhancing preemptive supply chain sensing and management capabilities."

He also indicated that the company must boldly tackle new technologies and new products.

The goal is to continuously create successful examples of new innovative products, such as intelligent eyewear, AI companion devices, home entertainment AI TVs, and home companion appliances.

President Roh also outlined plans, saying, "In new businesses nurtured at the divisional level—such as robots, HVAC systems, MedTech, and automotive electronics—we will build a foundation for future sustainable growth through securing differentiated core technologies, establishing development and manufacturing infrastructure, and investing in breakthrough technologies."

Meanwhile, unlike in previous years, Samsung Electronics is not holding a separate founding anniversary ceremony this year, replacing it solely with a commemorative message.

It is known that the company plans to hold founding anniversary ceremonies only in 10-year cycles moving forward, such as the 60th and 70th anniversaries.

Starting this year, Samsung Electronics has also suspended its New Year greeting events, replacing them with messages by division.
