The Gangnam District Office in Seoul announced plans to request the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to designate the fire-damaged area of Guryong Village as a special disaster zone.
Except for the zones completely destroyed by the fire, Gangnam-gu plans to urgently restore electricity and water supplies to minimize resident inconvenience and provide relief support funds to displaced victims whose homes were burned down.
Gangnam-gu estimated that the fire on October 27 resulted in 127 victims requiring aid across 91 households.
In response, Gangnam-gu launched emergency support operations, including running temporary shelters from the day of the fire. As of 1:00 p.m. on October 29, 111 people from 70 households are staying at Gaepo Middle School, Guryong Middle School, and temporary accommodations.
Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation (SH), the developer of the Guryong Village urban development project, has secured 96 emergency temporary housing units to stabilize the living conditions of displaced residents, alongside 213 rental units available for temporary residence throughout the project period.
Gangnam-gu Mayor Kim Hyun-ki said, "We will meticulously oversee emergency relief and on-site safety management to minimize the inconvenience for residents who have lost their livelihoods to the fire." He added, "We will work closely with the Seoul Metropolitan Government and SH to ensure that necessary support is promptly delivered to the displaced residents."
