Global market update.

Let us start with the New York stock market.

The three major U.S. stock indices closed lower across the board.

In particular, the Nasdaq fell more than 1%, while the S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average showed slight flat-to-negative trends.

By sector, weak performance in mega-cap tech stocks led the communication services sector to plunge nearly 5%. In contrast, real estate and healthcare sectors saw a 2% gain as capital shifted into them, showing a clear divergence.

Dragging down the stock market today was the earnings shock from Google parent company Alphabet.

Alphabet's third-quarter revenue and net income fell short of market expectations, and its free cash flow recorded a massive deficit due to expanded AI infrastructure investments, causing its stock price to plummet by over 12%.

As a result, growing skepticism over whether massive AI investment costs will translate into actual profits led selling pressure to spread across tech stocks in general, including semiconductors and cloud computing.

Economic indicators simultaneously showed robust economic momentum and inflationary pressures.

U.S. third-quarter GDP growth came in at an annualized rate of 3.4%, beating market expectations, but the September core PCE price index watched closely by the Federal Reserve remained high, rising 3.1% year-on-year.

Next, let us look at the U.S. futures market.

Amid renewed concerns over the profitability of AI investments triggered by Alphabet's earnings shock, Amazon also announced sluggish earnings after the market close, dampening tech-centric sentiment.

Against this backdrop, U.S. stock index futures are showing mixed movements.

Dow futures are edging up around the 52,500 level, while Nasdaq-100 futures are dropping the most by 387 points, hovering around the 29,100 range.

S&P 500 futures are down 43 points, trading in the 6,700 range.

Looking at Russell 2000 futures centered on small-cap stocks, as funds flowing out of tech stocks overnight moved into small caps and others, the Russell 2000 spot index rose nearly 1%.

Russell 2000 futures are edging up, passing the 2,800 level.

Despite stronger-than-expected economic growth and high inflation, the 10-year Treasury yield fell below 5% overnight.

As tech stocks plummeted due to Alphabet's earnings shock, buying pressure flowed into safe-haven Treasury bonds, pulling yields down.

Meanwhile, 10-year U.S. Treasury futures are recording 4.932%.

In the commodity futures market, reports that the U.S. proposed the resumption of peace talks to Iran raised expectations for eased tensions in the Middle East.

Crude oil futures are hovering around the $102 per barrel mark.

Looking at individual U.S. stock futures movements, during regular trading, the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index fell 1.4%, while Alphabet futures are weak by 0.5% and Amazon futures by nearly 6%.

This concludes our look at the CME futures market.
