Police have requested an arrest warrant for a male station worker who inflicted serious injuries on a female colleague by brandishing a weapon at Wondang Station on Subway Line 3 in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province.
The Goyang Police Station announced today (October 29) that it has requested an arrest warrant for station worker A on charges of attempted murder.
The pre-trial detention hearing (warrant substantive examination) for A is expected to be held as early as tomorrow (October 30).
A is suspected of trying to kill female station worker B by attacking her with a weapon inside the station office at Wondang Station in Deokyang-gu, Goyang, at around 12:30 PM yesterday.
B sustained serious injuries to her neck and legs, was transported to a hospital where she underwent multiple emergency surgeries, and is currently receiving treatment.
At the time, another station worker subdued A, and a nearby construction worker tied A up with cable ties and handed him over to the responding police officers.
Police arrested A at the scene as the suspect caught in the act.
The two have been working together since early this year, and B was found to be a senior colleague at the workplace.
Police stated that, so far, this incident is not classified as a relational crime or a motiveless crime.
A carried two weapons in his bag and claimed during police questioning that he "carried them for protection."
Regarding the situation at the time of the crime, he made statements to the effect that he could not remember.
Police view that A used the weapons he had previously carried in the crime, and are intensively investigating whether it was a premeditated crime and what the motive was.
Meanwhile, claims have also been raised that B had previously requested separate measures from A multiple times, but management ignored them.
B's husband posted online stating, "My wife repeatedly requested personnel measures because of the perpetrator employee, but it was not accepted."
Police are investigating management to see if there were any issues with their response.
The Goyang Police Station plans to investigate the case directly without transferring it to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Railroad Special Judicial Police.
