The film "The Assassin(s)" has crossed its break-even point by surpassing 3.4 million cumulative admissions.
According to the Korean Film Council's integrated computer network for movie tickets, "The Assassin(s)" surpassed its break-even point by recording a cumulative total of 3,401,825 admissions as of 7:00 a.m. today (October 29). While the break-even point for "The Assassin(s)" had been rumored to be around 3.3 million admissions, the exact figure was confirmed today as the distributor officially announced that it had reached the threshold.
After drawing 3 million viewers in just 20 days of release, the film demonstrated its box office power by ranking among the top four highest-grossing Korean films of 2026. In particular, it maintained a long-running box office streak by holding the No. 1 spot on the weekly Korean film box office for five consecutive weeks through its fifth week of release, finally achieving the meaningful milestone of breaking even in its sixth week.
Based on the assassination attempt against the First Lady, "The Assassin(s)" faced early headwinds upon release after becoming embroiled in controversy over historical distortion. With an all-out offensive launched across political circles, the film faced circumstances that hindered not only its box office run, but also led to personal attacks against the cast and obstacles regarding invitations to international film festivals.
However, the audience's interest in the film could not be stopped. Amid diverse perspectives and interpretations surrounding the work following its premiere, moviegoers headed to theaters to encounter the story on screen firsthand and share their individual reflections.
Praise from prestigious international film festivals also added momentum to its box office success. After being named runner-up for an audience award at the 51st Toronto International Film Festival, the film achieved the feat of being selected as the opening film of the 37th Singapore International Film Festival, marking the first Korean film to do so in 22 years. Proving the strong interest of local audiences by selling out all seats from its opening screening through its second screening, "The Assassin(s)" earned recognition for its artistic merit globally beyond South Korea, receiving acclaim from a festival programmer who called it "one of the notable achievements realized by Korean cinema today." Furthermore, following successive invitations to the 28th Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival, the 21st Paris Korean Film Festival, and the 46th Hawaii International Film Festival, the movie sold out completely within just three minutes of ticket sales opening at the Paris Korean Film Festival.
Having successfully crossed its break-even point, "The Assassin(s)" is expected to continue its extended theatrical run.
