The Prosecutors Office has requested that the police reinvestigate the case surrounding the death of a Yangpyeong County Office official who died after being questioned by the special counsel team led by Min Joong-ki, following the police's initial decision not to forward the case.

The Criminal Division 1 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors Office (acting senior prosecutor Lee Ju-hee) requested yesterday (October 27) that the Seoul Jongno Police Station reinvestigate the case involving allegations of abuse of authority and obstruction of rights against investigator A from the Min Joong-ki special counsel team.

It was learned that the Prosecutors Office conveyed its opinion to the police that evidence should be reinforced through witness interrogations and smartphone forensics, and that the existence of the charges should be re-examined.

Official B, a Grade 5 official at the Yangpyeong County Office, was found dead at home in October of last year after undergoing questioning by the Min Joong-ki special counsel team.

Following an ex officio investigation that secured and analyzed a suicide note left by B and statements from colleagues, the National Human Rights Commission concluded that the special counsel team had coerced statements, leading it to file a complaint against special counsel investigator A.

However, concluding that it was difficult to acknowledge the charges against investigator A, the police decided not to forward the case on September 10.
