A damaged vehicle is stopped behind the daycare center's door, which has been completely torn away.

At around 9:00 a.m. today (October 28), an SUV driven by a man in his 80s crashed through the wall of a daycare center in Chipyeong-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju, in South Jeolla Province.

The SUV first struck the side of a taxi on the road, crossed the center line, and finally stopped after crashing into the entrance of the nearby daycare center.

At the time, there were five children inside the daycare center.

However, the teacher and children avoided injury as they were in a different classroom, not the one where the accident occurred.

Only the 80-year-old SUV driver and the taxi driver were injured, though their injuries are reportedly not serious.

The 80-year-old driver told police, "I stepped on the brake, but the vehicle lurged forward," claiming sudden unintended acceleration.

Investigations showed that the 80-year-old driver was neither under the influence of alcohol nor driving without a license.

Police believe the 80-year-old driver hit the taxi while coming up from the underground parking lot and then plowed into the daycare center, and are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident.
