Israel's general election, which will determine whether Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu extends his time in office, closed at 10 p.m. local time on the 27th.

Broadcast exit polls showed that neither the pro-Netanyahu nor the anti-Netanyahu parties secured the majority of 61 seats required to form a coalition government.

Due to the ultra-tight race, it is expected to take some time to confirm which party will secure the most seats.

According to The Times of Israel, an exit poll by Channel 12 showed that pro-Netanyahu parties are projected to win a total of 50 seats out of the 120-seat parliament, including 24 seats for the ruling Likud party led by Prime Minister Netanyahu.

Four anti-Netanyahu Jewish opposition parties are projected to secure a total of 52 seats, including 22 seats for the National Unity party led by former military chief Gadi Eisenkot.

Arab parties Ra'am and the Joint List are projected to secure 7 and 11 seats, respectively, holding the casting vote for forming the next government.

An exit poll by Channel 13 also showed the anti-Netanyahu bloc winning 53 seats, the pro-Netanyahu bloc winning 50 seats, and Arab parties winning 17 seats.

With exit poll results indicating that neither camp will secure a majority, fierce negotiations over forming a new government are expected to continue for weeks, the Associated Press reported.

According to the Central Election Committee, more than 74% of eligible voters had cast their ballots as of 8 p.m. that day.

This is 8 percentage points higher than the voter turnout in the 2022 general election.
