The large fire that broke out in Guryong Village, Gaepo-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, was brought under control early this morning (October 28) following overnight firefighting operations.

Fire authorities declared the main fire contained at around 2:21 a.m.

This came 10 hours and 31 minutes after the fire started at a temporary building in District 2 of the village at around 3:50 p.m. yesterday.

Containment refers to a stage where the flames are under control and there is no risk of further spread.

The fire left a woman in her 30s with minor injuries to her leg, and no other casualties have been confirmed so far.

Driven by the wind, the flames spread to Districts 1, 3, and 7.

Fire authorities mobilized 232 personnel and 110 pieces of equipment, including 6 helicopters, to battle the blaze. However, firefighting efforts faced difficulties due to darkness, a shortage of water, and strong winds.

Thirty-nine residents evacuated on their own due to the fire, and 107 people from 77 households living in Districts 1, 2, and 3 were found to have been affected. In response, Gangnam-gu set up shelters at the gymnasiums of Gaepo Middle School and Guryong Middle School, as well as nearby accommodations.
