Professional football club Daejeon Hana Citizen has fallen to Vissel Kobe of Japan, widely known as a "K League kryptonite."

Daejeon lost 1-0 to Kobe after conceding a late winner in the dying minutes of the second half during the 3rd matchday of the 2026-2027 AFC Champions League Elite (ACLE) league stage held at the Daejeon World Cup Stadium.

Having previously secured a 1-0 home victory against Kyoto Sanga (Japan) and a 1-1 away draw against Shanghai Port (China), Daejeon now records 1 win, 1 draw, and 1 loss, placing them 9th with 4 points.

Kobe, extending its winning streak to three matches, climbed to the top of the East Asian standings with 9 points.

Kobe has now achieved 6 consecutive wins against K League teams on the Asian stage.

During the 2025-2026 ACLE league stage, Kobe defeated Ulsan HD and FC Seoul, and met Seoul again in the Round of 16, winning both the first and second legs.

In the 2nd matchday of the current tournament's league stage, they also defeated Jeonbuk Hyundai 2-0.

Daejeon qualified for the ACLE as the 3rd-place finishers of the 2025 K1 League season, while Kobe qualified as the champions of the J1 League's Centennial Vision League, a short-term tournament held in the first half of the year following the J.League's shift to a autumn-spring calendar.

Daejeon dominated the match early on, led by midfielder Lee Soon-min's steady passing and right winger Jung Jaehee's pace, but struggled to find the back of the net.

In the 22nd minute of the first half, Joao Victor met Jung Jaehee's cross with a volley that sailed over the crossbar. In the 45th minute, Jung Jaehee broke through on a solo run and unleashed a right-footed shot, only to be denied by veteran goalkeeper Gonda Shuichi.

Kobe did not sit back entirely.

In the 15th minute of the first half, Yuta Goke met a low cross from the left with a first-time left-footed shot, which was blocked by goalkeeper Lee Chang-geun.

With goals still elusive into the second half, Daejeon manager Hwang Sun-hong brought on forward Rubikson and Um Wonsang in the 20th minute to bolster the team's firepower.

However, the breakthrough came from Kobe.

In the 38th minute of the second half, Gotoku Sakai sent a diagonal cross from the right, which Ren Komatsu met with a glancing header that pierced the left side of Daejeon's goal.

Seeking an equalizer, Daejeon substituted out Diogo and brought on veteran striker Joo Min-kyu, but their efforts fell short.

Meanwhile, Jeonbuk secured a 2-2 away draw against Beijing Guoan at the Beijing Workers' Stadium in China.

Jeonbuk took an early lead just two minutes into the match when Motta scored with a header.

Choi Wook-jin delivered a cross from the left, which Motta met with his head to shake the back of the net.

After being put on the back foot, Jeonbuk conceded the equalizer in the 34th minute of the first half during a Beijing free-kick situation, where Uroš Spajić passed to Jeremy Dudziak, whose right-footed shot found the goal.

Seeking a change at the start of the second half, Jeonbuk substituted out Kim Seung-sub and brought in Italo, but instead conceded to Beijing.

In the 7th minute of the second half, following a Beijing counterattack, goalkeeper Song Bum-keun parried a shot from Shadrach Akolo, and just as Hwang Seung-jun was about to clear it, Wang Gang finished with his right foot to score the go-ahead goal.

Hwang Seung-jun's sluggish clearance was a regrettable moment for the team.

Jeonbuk capitalized on their focus during a set-piece 12 minutes later to pull level.

When Kim Jin-gyu's corner kick from the left drifted backward, Lee Young-jae struck a left-footed shot to break the deadlock.

In the 25th minute of the second half, Jeonbuk dramatically ramped up their offensive pressure by bringing on Lee Seung-woo and Kang Sang-yun, but the anticipated winning goal failed to materialize.

With 1 win, 1 draw, and 1 loss for 4 points, Jeonbuk sits in 10th place, while Beijing holds 3rd place with 2 wins and 1 draw (7 points).
