Police have launched an investigation after a body of a man was found this morning (October 27) around 11:00 AM near an alley where garbage is collected in a residential area in Guro-gu, Seoul.

A district office worker responsible for collecting garbage discovered the body and reported it to the district office, which then notified the police.

The man is estimated to be elderly, and the body was reportedly in a partially mummified state, wrapped in plastic and newspapers.

Police believe the time of death dates back more than a month and have sent the body to the National Forensic Service to confirm the exact identity and cause of death.

Given the circumstances suggesting that someone abandoned the man's body in the garbage pile, the Guro Police Station is currently tracking down the suspect, keeping open the possibility of applying charges of corpse abandonment.
