Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) Commissioner Hur Gu-yoon is effectively on the verge of securing a third consecutive term.

The KBO announced that it resolved to recommend incumbent Commissioner Hur as the candidate for the 26th commissioner during its fourth board of directors meeting held on the 27th.

The KBO stated, "The board deliberated on Commissioner Hur as the sole candidate and decided to recommend him to the General Assembly as the next commissioner candidate with the consent of at least three-fourths of the registered directors."

It added, "The KBO General Assembly will deliberate on the agenda for the appointment of candidate Hur Gu-yoon recommended by the board," and explained, "In accordance with Article 10 of the KBO Statutes, if at least three-fourths of the registered members vote in favor, candidate Hur will be elected as the 26th commissioner and serve a three-year term starting in 2027."

Commissioner Hur, a former player, served as manager of the Cheongbo Pintos and coach of the Lotte Giants before working as a baseball commentator. In March 2022, he became the first person with a professional baseball player background to head the KBO.

In November 2023, he was re-elected unanimously at the General Assembly, succeeding in his second term.

If Commissioner Hur is elected as the 26th commissioner, he will become the third KBO commissioner in history to achieve a third consecutive term, following former Commissioners Park Yong-oh (12th to 15th) and Koo Bon-neung (19th to 21st).

The KBO's decision-making bodies consist of the General Managers Meeting, the Board of Directors composed of club CEOs, and the General Assembly attended club owners.

The KBO General Assembly is the highest decision-making body and makes the final determination on matters processed by the Board of Directors.
