As the box office suffers from an audience drought, the Japanese animation "Chiikawa the Movie: Secret of the Mermaid Island" is maintaining a solo lead.
According to the Korean Film Council's integrated box office ticket network data on October 27, "Chiikawa the Movie: Secret of the Mermaid Island" attracted 20,151 viewers nationwide on October 26, defending its No. 1 spot at the box office. Its cumulative audience reached 2,268,277. Holding the top spot at the box office for three consecutive weeks, "Chiikawa the Movie: Secret of the Mermaid Island" continued its winning streak even on a weekday in its fifth week of release.
Except for "Chiikawa the Movie: Secret of the Mermaid Island," no other film surpassed 10,000 daily moviegoers. The No. 2 spot went to "Assassins," which could only gather 7,622 viewers on the same day.
The total number of moviegoers who visited theaters that day dropped to 73,174, falling below the 100,000 daily audience mark and signaling the beginning of the off-season.
