Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, who was defeated by incumbent President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in the Brazilian presidential election held on the 25th local time, has been hit with a travel ban less than a day after his election defeat was confirmed.

According to CNN Brazil, following his defeat in the election, Senator Bolsonaro received a subpoena from the Federal Police on the 26th ordering him to surrender his ordinary, diplomatic, and any foreign passports within 24 hours.

Supreme Federal Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes ordered the cancellation of Senator Bolsonaro's passports and commanded that they be "rendered invalid."

He also instructed the Federal Police to register a "departure alert" in the immigration system to prevent him from leaving the country or moving between nations.

Senator Bolsonaro has been implicated by circumstances linking him to a lawyer named Willer, who is suspected of money laundering in connection with a National Social Security Institute (INSS) fraud case, prompting the Federal Police to request an investigation from the Supreme Court.

Protesting the travel ban, Senator Bolsonaro took to social media to question, "Would the same thing have happened if I had won the election?"

"Would the Federal Police have acted the same way, summoning me in the middle of the street?"

Separately, Senator Bolsonaro also expressed his intention to file a lawsuit to annul the election, claiming that President Lula abused his power.

Senator Bolsonaro argued that President Lula "poured the largest amount of public funds into the election in Brazilian history to secure votes."

This remark is seen as targeting President Lula's successive populist policies during the election campaign, such as large-scale debt relief for small business owners and the expansion of free public transportation on weekends.
