Discussions are rising over the possibility of actor Jeon Do-yeon being nominated for Best Actress at the Academy Awards in the United States.
U.S. media outlet The Hollywood Reporter highlighted Jeon Do-yeon's career and her passionate performance in "Possible Love" on October 25 (local time), reporting, "This acclaimed actor could become the first Korean to be nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress, a natural outcome given her stellar screen trajectory."
The outlet introduced Jeon as having started out as an advertising model in her 20s and built a heavy-hitting filmography with major works such as "The Contact" (1997), "The Harmonium in My Memory" (1999), "You Are My Sunshine" (2005), "Secret Sunshine" (2007), and "The Housemaid" (2010). It added that while she boasts an unrivaled position in the Korean film industry, she has been relatively less known overseas compared to actors like Lee Byung-hun and Youn Yuh-jung who have garnered Hollywood's attention.

Noting that she is receiving hot attention overseas recently through "Possible Love," the outlet mentioned the possibility of her being nominated for Best Actress at the Academy Awards to be held in March next year.
The Hollywood Reporter praised her, stating, "It is hard to imagine anyone else as Mi-ok. Jeon delivers a performance that is astonishingly human and original in every scene," and adding, "Her acting does not interpret any facial expression or voice simply. It is a performance that paradoxically breaks your heart the most when she is at her happiest."
Director Lee Chang-dong, who helmed the film, also emphasized through the outlet, "It is still very rare and difficult for an actor from a non-English-language film to be nominated for an Oscar," adding, "Proper recognition from the Oscars would be an acknowledgment of an actress's achievement and a tangible proof of the change the Academy pursues."

Released in domestic theaters on September 23, "Possible Love" tells the story of a laid-off worker (Sul Kyung-gu) and his wife (Jeon Do-yeon) who confront different lives and hidden desires while agreeing to an interview with a wealthy documentary director (Cho Yeo-jeong) and her husband (Zo In-sung). As a new work by Director Lee Chang-dong, Sul Kyung-gu and Jeon Do-yeon, who can be called his personas, have teamed up once again, with Zo In-sung and Cho Yeo-jeong newly joining the cast.
"Possible Love," which won the Grand Jury Prize at the Venice International Film Festival, is set to embark on the Oscar race starting in the second half of this year to secure final nominations for the Academy Awards. The Netflix original "Possible Love" is expected to challenge for nominations in Best Picture, Best Director, Best International Feature Film, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Actress (Jeon Do-yeon).
"Possible Love" will meet global viewers through Netflix on November 6.
