People Power Party Floor Leader Jeong Jeom-sik demanded that the Democratic Party of Korea (MINJU) immediately introduce an impeachment motion rather than push for a parliamentary investigation into Supreme Court Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae, saying, "Since impeachment is a habit for this party, if you are going to resort to tricks like a parliamentary investigation, propose an impeachment motion right now." He added, "If the impeachment motion is dismissed, the MINJU leadership should take responsibility by resigning en masse and face the judgment of the people."
At the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly today (October 26), Floor Leader Jeong remarked, "A parliamentary investigation into the Chief Justice is mere political testing of the waters. They posed before their extremist supporters as if they would impeach him immediately, but when it came time to actually try, they panicked, terrified of the political fallout, and barely came up with this trick of a parliamentary probe."
Regarding the special counsel bill to dismiss indictments pushed by the MINJU Party, Floor Leader Jeong pointed out, "They keep putting makeup on it, calling it a Distorted indictment, but it is blatant linguistic manipulation." He asked, "Why is the president refusing the trial process that all citizens undergo and aiming to drop charges through a special prosecutor designed solely for himself? It is because he cannot obtain an acquittal or dismissal of the indictment through a trial."
He continued, "In reality, President Lee does not have much time. Once judged in the general election, the power to push for dropping the charges will vanish, and if they push to dismiss indictments right before the general election, they will face an even harsher public verdict, so they likely want to finish dropping the charges in advance." He added, "With only about a year left to erase the president's trials, they are resorting to all kinds of reckless measures and struggling for a political prison break."
Furthermore, regarding lawmakers (WONI) Park Gyun-taek and Yang Bu-nam of the MINJU Party being widely mentioned as leading candidates for Minister of Justice, he asserted, "Both are bodyguards shielding President Lee from judicial risks, and I cannot help but express deep concern." He claimed, "The parliamentary probe and impeachment threats against Chief Justice Cho, the special counsel bill to drop charges, and the speculation surrounding the president's judicial risk bodyguards as justice minister candidates—all of these point toward Hana single goal: President Lee's political and judicial prison break."
