In front of a villa in Jung-gu, Daejeon.
Fire engines and ambulances arrive, and paramedics wait with a stretcher.
At around 12:36 PM yesterday (October 24), a woman in her 40s, identified as B, was found dead inside her home.
Police launched a pursuit, suspecting that her former partner, a man in his 40s named A, murdered B and fled.
[Neighbor: (The police) seemed to have arrived around 2 PM. About three police cars, and it looked like they only spoke with the landlord and left...]
Immediately after the crime, A took a taxi and moved to Incheon International Airport and Wolmido, among other locations.
While staging an escape to evade police pursuit, A was arrested by police in Gangneung, Gangwon Province, 18 hours after the incident.
The deceased victim, B, was found lying on a bed, and police noted there were no signs of forced entry.
[Paramedic: It was generally a posture of just lying down, and there were marks that appeared to be pressure on the neck.]
According to the investigation, A had a history of being reported to the police twice last year for stalking the deceased B.
At the time, police implemented safety measures such as a restraining order and provided a smart watch, but after B submitted a statement expressing a desire not to punish A a month later, the measures were canceled, and A was cleared of charges without being sent to the prosecution.
[Bae In-ho, Head of the Criminal Investigation Division at Daejeon Jungbu Police Station: Upon arrest, the suspect made statements admitting to the charges, saying, 'I did wrong, I want to die.' We are currently investigating the suspect's motives.]
Police confiscated A's cell phone and conducted a search and seizure of his residence to check whether the crime was premeditated, while planning to apply for an arrest warrant by tomorrow.
