Promising women's singles figure skater Kim Yu-seong (Surigo High School) finished fifth in her senior Grand Prix debut.

Competing in the free skating event at the 2026–2027 International Skating Union (ISU) Figure Skating Senior Grand Prix 1st event held at the Ice Parc in Angers, France, Kim scored 62.72 points in technical elements (TES) and 61.13 points in program components (PCS) for a total free skate score of 123.85 points.

Combined with her short program score of 68.72 points, she finished with a final total of 192.57 points, following Ami Nakai (219.74 points, Japan), Anastasiia Gubanova (202.82 points, Georgia), Lara Naki Gutmann (202.37 points, Italy), and Yuna Aoki (200.62 points, Japan).

Mistakes on jumps were a regret.

Kim executed her opening jump element, the triple axel, without major instability, but received a negative grade of execution (GOE) of 1.03 points after being called for a quarter landing (under-rotated by about 90 degrees).

She then cleanly performed her triple flip-triple toe loop combination jump, but touched the ice with her right hand during the landing of her third jump element, the triple loop, resulting in a deduction.

Kim wrapped up the first half of her routine by executing both her flying camel spin and step sequence at level 4, the highest difficulty.

Jump errors continued in the second half, where a 10% bonus is applied.

She received an edge call (attention) on her triple lutz, and her landing was slightly shaky.

Although she cleanly executed the subsequent triple flip, she made a major error on the following combination jump.

She had originally planned a triple lutz-triple salchow-double axel combination jump, but after losing her balance upon landing the first jump, the triple lutz, she salvaged the sequence by attaching a single Euler and a double salchow instead.

From a jump element that could have yielded a base value of 14.85 points, she received a base value of 6.62 points and suffered a heavy point loss with a 2.36-point GOE deduction.

However, Kim did not lose her focus until the very end.

After executing her change foot combination spin at level 4, the highest difficulty, she concluded her performance with two choreo sequences.

Kim is a rising talent who won the silver medal at the 2025–2026 ISU Junior Grand Prix Final.

After making her mark on the junior stage until last season, Kim made her debut this season on the senior stage, where athletes aged 17 and older compete.
