A woman in her 40s has been arrested today (October 24) on charges of murdering her 60-year-old biological mother in Gangseo-gu, Seoul.

The Seoul Southern District Court held a pre-trial detention hearing this afternoon for the woman in her 40s, identified as A, who faces charges of patricide/matricide (parricide), and issued an arrest warrant.

The court stated the reason for issuing the warrant as "concerns over flight."

Entering the court today, A did not answer questions from reporters, such as whether she admitted to murdering her mother, what her motive was, if she had anything to say to other family members, and why she referred to the victim as her stepmother when making the report.

A is suspected of murdering her biological mother in Ujangsan-dong, Gangseo-gu, at around 8:15 AM on October 22.

After reporting the incident herself to the police, A was emergency arrested at her residence where the incident took place at around 8:40 AM.

At the time of her initial report to the police, A reportedly said, "I did a bad thing to my stepmother."

However, police investigation revealed that the two were actually biological mother and daughter.

A police official explained that there were no financial issues or special grudges between A and the victim.

Nevertheless, police have secured testimonies indicating that A had previously expressed negative emotions toward the victim, such as swearing at her, and are currently investigating the motive behind the crime.

A is known to have denied the charges during police questioning.
