The People Power Party demanded today (October 24) that the truth behind the so-called Shincheonji intervention allegations be uncovered through a special counsel investigation, after Supreme Council members of the Democratic Party of Korea clashed during an open meeting over whether to disclose the results of an internal probe.

Chief Spokesperson Park Sung-hoon said in a commentary that day, "The leadership of the Democratic Party engaged in a mudslinging match, shouting at each other in public over releasing the findings of the investigation into 'allegations of mass party enrollment by Shincheonji members.'" He criticized, "It is so irresponsible and unsightly that it is hard to believe this is the leadership of the ruling party responsible for state affairs."

Chief Spokesperson Park pointed out, "The Democratic Party has repeatedly leveled harsh criticism against the People Power Party by bringing up allegations of Shincheonji intervention as 'corrupt collusion between politics and religion.' Yet when faced with allegations of mass enrollment within their own party, they are merely scrambling to cover it up while tightly concealing the investigation results—a textbook example of double standards."

He added, "If the Democratic Party is truly blameless, it should immediately comply with a rigorous investigation by law enforcement authorities."

Spokesperson Cho Yong-sul also issued a commentary, demanding to know, "For months, members within the Democratic Party have been raising suspicions back and forth over the Shincheonji incident, behaving not like a public political party, but like Bongsoong-a School itself. What on earth are they afraid of that makes them hesitate so much to make it public?"

Spokesperson Cho proposed, "Stop exhausting the public with dragging Shincheonji allegations. Let us form a special counsel, which the Democratic Party loves so much, to thoroughly uncover the suspicions of collusion between the Democratic Party and Shincheonji."
