The Seoul Gangseo Police Station announced today (the 22nd) that it has placed a woman in her 40s, identified as A, under emergency arrest and is investigating her on charges of killing her biological mother in Ujangsan-dong, Gangseo-gu.

Police were dispatched after receiving a self-report from A at around 8:15 a.m. today stating that she had killed her mother, and apprehended her at the crime scene residence at around 8:40 a.m.

It was found that only A and the victim were inside the home at the time of the crime.

A total of four people are known to reside at the residence.

After police arrived at the scene, A's daughter, who had been outside the house, also reported to police that her mother was saying strange things and that her grandmother was not answering the phone.

Police investigations revealed that at the time, A had told her daughter that her mother had tried to feed her poisoned food.

However, police stated that no circumstances related to poison have been confirmed so far.

It was understood that there were no financial issues or special grudges between A and the victim.

However, police secured statements indicating that A had previously displayed negative emotions toward the victim, such as cursing at her.

Reports showed that when A made the initial report to the police, she stated, "I did a bad thing to my stepmother."

However, as a result of the police investigation, the two were confirmed to be biological mother and daughter.

Accordingly, the police plan to change the murder charge applied at the time of the emergency arrest to the patricide/matricide charge of killing an ascendant.

Police are investigating the exact details of the incident, including the motive.
