The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it plans to send a letter to the president of the United Nations Security Council regarding North Korea's landmine explosion in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ).
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Park Doo-soon made the announcement during a regular briefing, explaining that South Korea's ambassador to the UN will send the letter on October 22, local time in New York.
Regarding the contents of the letter, Park said, "I understand it will explain that the explosion was caused by landmines planted by the North Korean military and constitutes a clear violation of the Armistice Agreement, while demanding an apology and responsible measures from North Korea, as well as urging dialogue to prevent the escalation of tensions and restore trust."
He added, "In addition, we intend to draw attention to North Korea's recent attempts to shift the blame for escalating regional tensions onto our side by defining our military's legitimate operational activities along the Military Demarcation Line as provocations."
