A man in his 30s who broke into the home of actor Nana (real name Im Jin-ah) and threatened her with a weapon has received a heavy prison sentence again in his appellate trial.
On the 22nd, the 14th Criminal Division of the Seoul High Court (Presiding Judges Jung Kyung-geun, Lee Hyung-geun, and Lee Hyun-woo) sentenced the defendant in his 30s, surnamed Kim, to seven years in prison, the same as the first-instance verdict.
The court stated, "The lower court handed down the sentence taking into consideration that severe punishment is inevitable given that Kim committed robbery and injury by trespassing while carrying a weapon at night into a residence where absolute peace should be guaranteed, caused considerable harm to the victims, and that the victims desire punishment."
The court added, "There are no new reasons to alter the sentence since the lower court's ruling," and dismissed the appeals filed by both the prosecution and Kim.
Kim is accused of breaking into Nana's home in Acheong-dong, Guri, Gyeonggi Province, in the early hours of November 15 of last year, carrying a weapon to threaten Nana and her mother by choking them and demanding money, though the robbery ended in an attempted crime.
The first instance found the main charges guilty and sentenced Kim to seven years in prison.
Kim's claims that he did not carry a weapon at the time of the crime and had no intent to commit robbery were all rejected.
