Kwon Chil-seung, chief policymaker of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated regarding real estate supply measures that he will "work to enhance the public's tangible perception of supply outcomes while striving to establish a sustainable supply foundation."
Policy Chief Kwon said at a parliamentary audit strategy meeting held at the National Assembly today (October 22), "President (Lee Jae-myung) also ordered a dramatic reduction in the time required from site preparation to groundbreaking."
He emphasized, "We will examine the factors causing supply delays and look into various measures to accelerate supply, such as shortening the period for land compensation and acquisition, and utilizing modular housing," adding, "We will revitalize supply in urban centers by resolving delays in redevelopment permits and rising construction costs through expanding the operational scope of the expedited permit support center."
Policy Chief Kwon also said, "Recently, groundless claims regarding the National Pension Service have been rampant, stoking public anxiety," adding, "The People Power Party has poured out reckless remarks, calling it a 'pension fund casino' and 'boosting stock prices for elections,' and has gone so far as to mention a special prosecutor and even presidential impeachment."
Policy Chief Kwon continued, "The People Power Party's claim of a 182 trillion won loss is completely contrary to the facts," explaining, "This reflects changes in the valuation of shares in certain listed companies held by the National Pension Service, which is different from an overall fund operating loss."
He also explained, "The claim that the government blocked stock sales is likewise untrue," noting, "The Fund Management Committee's temporary deferral of rebalancing last January was a measure to adjust investment weightings."
Policy Chief Kwon then urged, "The public's retirement funds must not be condemned as speculative capital or used as tools for political strife," calling on the People Power Party to "immediately cease political agitation."
