A 19-year-old youth who dreamed of becoming a chef has passed away after giving the gift of new life to seven patients through brain-dead organ donation.
The Korea Organ Donation Agency announced that Kang Min-su, 19, donated his heart, lungs, liver, pancreas, both kidneys, and both corneas to a total of seven people after being pronounced brain-dead at Myongji Hospital on September 30.
Kang's parents decided on organ donation by recalling how their son never simply walked past people in need.
This was because they believed their son would have wanted the same thing if he could help someone.
His father, Kang Seong-won, shared, "It brings me great comfort to think that Min-su's heart is beating well inside someone's body."
Born in Busan as the second of a son and daughter, Kang had dreamed of becoming a chef and opening a restaurant since he was young.
To achieve his dream, he entered a culinary high school and attended a cooking academy to build his skills.
He would occasionally make food and bread for his family.
His father said the ramen cooked by his son is his most memorable and that he still cannot forget the taste.
His father bid his final farewell to his son, saying, "Min-su, I miss your appearance and voice so much as you approached me calling me dad. Dad will always be in that same spot, so please come visit me at least once in a while. I miss you so much and I love you."
