An active-duty police inspector has been booked and is under investigation for driving under the influence of alcohol while off duty amid the National Assembly's parliamentary audit period.

The Yeoju Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced today (October 21) that it has booked and is investigating Inspector A from the same station on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act after causing a car crash while driving drunk.

Inspector A is accused of driving a vehicle under the influence around 5:00 p.m. on October 17 on a road in Yeoju, Gyeonggi Province, and crashing into a median barrier.

Investigations showed that Inspector A's blood alcohol concentration at the time of the accident was well above the legal limit for license revocation.

The Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency relieved Inspector A of his duties and placed him on standby two days ago, and plans to initiate internal disciplinary procedures and investigations once the case is forwarded to prosecutors.
