The Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) announced plans to order 16,000 units of modular housing by 2030 to accelerate housing supply.

LH announced today (the 21st) that it will expand this year's modular housing order volume to around 2,100 units, higher than its original target of 2,000 units.

Modular housing involves manufacturing major structures and facilities in a factory before assembling them on-site, which can shorten construction periods compared to traditional building methods.

This month, LH is launching a public-private joint public housing project contest applying the modular construction method to the Goyang Changneung Block A3 (668 units) and Namyangju Wangsuk 2 Block A10 (555 units) in the 3rd-phase new towns.

In December, LH will place an additional order by applying the modular construction method to the entire Pocheon Songwoo 2 Block A1 (916 units).

Following this, the corporation plans to order a total of 14,000 units over four years—3,000 units each year from 2027 to 2029 and 5,000 units in 2030—bringing the cumulative order volume from this year through 2030 to approximately 16,000 units.LH 2030 Off-site Construction (OSC) Housing Roadmap (Photo provided by Korea Land and Housing Corporation, Yonhap News)LH also held a roundtable meeting on revitalizing modular housing at its Gyeonggi Southern Regional Headquarters, attended by modular manufacturers, Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, and academic experts.

During the meeting, participants discussed ways to expand modular housing supply and advance technologies, as well as strategies to realize "AI modular homes" that combine artificial intelligence appliances with energy management platforms.

LH plans to advance the high-rise capabilities and standardization of modular housing, and aims to shorten construction periods by 50% compared to conventional reinforced concrete (RC) methods by 2030 through expanded technology development and procurement.

Park Hyun-keun, head of LH's Public Housing Division, said, "Modular housing is a core alternative for rapidly supplying homes while simultaneously achieving shortened construction periods and high-quality construction," adding, "We will faithfully implement our order plans through 2030 without a hitch."
